The MGB 1800 weighs 397#.

350 Chevy weighs 575#.

302 Ford weighs 485#.

Knock off 50# on the Chevy and Ford V8s for AL heads.

215 Buick - Rover V8 weighs 350. The larger Rover versions are only 5#
heavier than the 215.

Also, the AL T-5 5-speed is lighter than the MGB iron 4-speed.

A breathed on 215 Buick/Rover can give you 3 to 4 times the HP with less
weight than an MGB 1800. But, you are still going to have fun fitting it.

P.S. My numbers came from "How to Give Your MGB V8 Power" by Roger Williams.

Lets not forget that the "B" motor and tranny weigh about twice the
Midget
combo. I've been told that a chevy small block V8 is lighter then the "B"
motor....

Have to agree with David. Engine/transmission swaps are a lot of work and
require lots of minor modifications you'd never think of. (Ask me how I
know!) There are a lot of great choices to repower a Spridget, e.g. Miata
twincam, Mazda rotary, V6s and the Ford Duratec. IIRC, the B engine is
taller
than the Spridget motor and won't clear the hood of the Spridget. I think a
B
engine will get you all of the bad parts of a swap with only a tiny helping
of
the good. Cruise on over to BritishV8.org and there are plenty of examples
of
various Spridget swaps that would be a better idea.

If you want to do that much work, start with a good engine, not an MGB
engine.
