Back in 1980 I bought a new Wide Glide and my wife and I drove it
across the country. We went to Sturgis for a few days but there were
some serious club biker rumblings that we didn't want to get caught up
in. (Sturgis was a little different back then!) We hit the road... Not
too far out my rear tire threw half the tread off. I could drive it
straight or make right tunrs but had no tread on the left side of the
tire. A couple of guys riding our direction stopped to help. They
bailed on Sturgis too even though they were club guys. They figured
that they were in the wrong club to hang around. Anyway, one took our
gear and the other gave my wife a ride to lighten the load on my bad
tire. They escorted us to the first town with a H-D dealer where I
could get the tire replaced. They even spent the night and made sure
we got to the dealership in the AM. I remember that one guy was called
"Bear" but forget the other's name.

Ridng is everything: a culture, an escape, a job, a lifestyle, a
recreation, an outlet, a means of transportation, a diversion, etc.
Not everyone rides for the same reason(s). My philosophy has changed
from the H-D only to "if you are happy riding the bike you're on,
you're on the right bike!"
