Was over my Healey restorer's house today dropping off engine parts for the
100-4 engine we are putting together for my BN2 when he showed me his latest
acquisition. It's a Fiat Abarth Zagato driven by Penske in 1962 at Sebring
and then at many of the big venues in Europe. The car has been
authenticated as one of 3 built for this purpose. The 1000CC engine sports
two Weber 50mm carbs to accommodate the 18,000 rpm it is capable of. The
speedometer tops off at 140 mph. The car is in surprisingly good condition
and has been painted red while in ownership in Italy recently. It was
originally white with a blue strip for Penske. I am not at liberty to say
what he paid, but one of the other two cars just sold for $306,000. I can
take pictures for anyone interested, but it will be a few days before I get
over there again.
