Did this car have a reserve?

The only way I think this would work is the auction started @ $18,500 with a
reserve.

The one and only bidder bid $20,000 which did not meet reserve.

Then that bidder bid again higher ($500 $2000? $5000?) but eBay only
increased the bid to the reserve and then removed the reserve off the
listing.

IF another bidder had put in a bid, it would have had to been $21,000 to
make it $500 over the current bid shown which is the minimum bid. If the
original bidder had put in a bid of let's say $22,000 then eBay would have
raised the auction to $21,500 with the first bidder as the high bidder with
$500 still in the "bank".

If this auction did not have a reserve, I don't have any clue why the bids
increased from $18,500, the starting point of the auction unless eBay does
car auctions different.

Ok, Now why would one start a bid, as the first bid at $1,500 over the
starting price and then with no other bids, add another $500??

do I smell a shill??
