The media used plenty of ink hyping Irene as a Category 4 hurricane that
Obama said would be of "historic proportions". Still, by the time it hit
New York City, it had been downgraded to a "Tropical Storm". It all proves
what Jim Johnson has been saying for years. It is impossible to make
accurate long-range weather forecasts. In this case, long range equates to
a matter of days! That is not to say that Tropical Storms do not mean
damage, but are completely unlike the Great Hurricane of 1938 that made
landfall as a Category 3, killed up to 800 people and caused damage of $41.1
Billion in inflation adjusted dollars.
