I seem to remember that someone (Frank Maybe) used a hose clamp of appropriate
size with a few of the slots cut out to hold the detent balls in place so that
you can rotate the hose clamp to a hole, install a spring and ball, and rotate
to the next hole, etc. then slide the outer gear over as the hose clamp slides
off. then just disassemble the hose clamp. NO pain, no drama, no stinkin'
balls flying thru the air.
