What determines the use of a capacitor is its value, polarized or not, it's 
voltage rating and environmental factors.
Big capacity (in terms of Farads) normally equates to Audio and power supplies.
Small capacity, eg ~100pf would be used in RF circuits... and so on <g>. 
The capacitor itself is not aware what you are using it for.
