Trevor,

I'm thinking it has to be the hazard flasher switch has failed. Six terminals
on the back, two on the bottom for the turn signal power, and four on the top
for the hazards. Most cars only three of the four are used. There should be
no continuity between the four terminals when the hazard flasher switch is
off. There should be continuity between the bottom two terminals with the
switch off.

hazard flasher stops the problem, and unplugging the green wire on the fuse
box stops the problem ... but I still can't find the cause. I'm starting to
fear it is wrapped up in the harness.

when this problem manifests itself the fuel pump clicks on and off. What kind
of mods have been done to the harness to connect an electric fuel pump? Is it
the original harness?
