If you replace the flasher unit get a digital one - it will last longer
than the analogue/bi-metal strip type, and the blink rate will be consistent
throughout its life.

First, try replacing the flasher unit. The wiring on one side of the car
is longer than the other, and a weak flasher will act just as you describe.
