Piston slap

Today I finished dismantling the 1275 that is going back in the '72 Midget
with a Morriservice 5-speed kit. This is the same engine I was asking about
timing components the other day. I was very pleased to find the crank
(.000-.000) in pristine condition with almost no wear on both the rod and
main bearings. Everything looked so good, I was considering just putting it
back together and using it that way. However, when I dropped the pistons
out, I discovered the #4 and a little of #3 shows some significant scoring
below the bottom ring of each piston. Cylinder #4 has some noticable
scoring at the bottom of the cylinder too. This is something I have never
observed before, at least not to this degree.

Is there something I can do when machining/rebuilding this engine to
prevent a recurrence of this problem? The bores seemed to be in pretty good
shape otherwise.

Thanks.

Gerard
