i fully admit it WAS most probably my ignorance on this matter..
but ignorance is no excuse when your loading up friday morning..
yes i dont doubt if i did richen it, it wouldve perhaps had a better chance
of being ok.
hard lesson to learn. but there was contributing factors..one was the
blowby..one may have been the rings and/or piston quality.
i have recieved a Very exact set of measurements and tolerances from "total
seal" to build the engine and ring slots to for the "next" motor. yeah..JE's
and Total seals may be a bit pricey, and yes it has to be built/assembled
machined right or good parts dont count. but i plan on running next year!
as far as the machine shop, i have been using them for several years now,
but i WILL be compairing and talking to a couple others! i cant afford to
make this mistake again.
note to self...cold = richen the damn carbs!!. i will be double checking
fuel press and flow and changing out the fuel filters too. i might go back
to old style float jets instead of the gros/ball jets too!

How dilligent is your machine shop at honing to the proper cyl clearance
(Clarence) with the forged pistons?

Chances are, had you richened your mix a ton in the cold AM... do you think
you'd have had a problem at all?

total seal rings:..i have heard allot of good things about them. (Jim F.?)
i called to get some more info..they can make a set up for me..
SS chromed top ring, gapless second..they dont make the top in moly in our
size?
but i have heard problems with seating chrome rings..
sounds durable,,and they are suppose to have a superior oil control setup..
any experiences with the above? Jim is your top ring SS/chrome?

survey and opinion has said that indeed the oil blowby i was experiencing
with the deves, DID contribute to the detonation and demise at Mid ohio.
