Well, whichever one you are, if not both, my Mk1 gets 18-20 mpg around
town with some freeway driving. I'm not too conservative on the loud
pedal, either. I mal adjusted idle, a wrong or worn jet(s), leaky seals,
bad float bowl adjustment, bad float bowl valve, cracked casting, or
just about 20 other things can cause "bad" mileage. You didn't specify
what you get, or how you drive, but if it smells rich, it probably is.
