Haven't got specific Dana data, but normally the rear end assemble needs
a lot of fit and check for gear contact. The "central position" is the
contact the drive pinion has with the ring gear. Usually a "red lead"
grease material is place on the pinion and it is rotated with the gear
as assembled. The contact area marked by the grease is to be centered
between the front and back of the ring gear. This entire operation is
"skill critical" and, as they say, "should only be done by
professionals". Good luck on a do-it-yourself attitude, it really is a
great learning and confidence buiding approach, but remember "the wise
man is the one who knows what he doesn't know".
