IMHO, you made some really important points concerning "roll" bars. We've had
a couple of instances in the vintage racing group I am involved with of bars
bending and snapping in roll-overs. Thank goodness, no serious injuries!
If you want to look "racy", that's one thing. If you want real protection,
that's another. Most of the Tiger roll bars I have seen, including the
Autopower "show" bar (so called to avoid any legal liability) I installed in
my Tiger, are not going to cut it if you ever really need it. The problem
usually is that the bar will fold, relatively easily, in the direction away
from the rear mounts. 
If you are serious about the subject, have a competent shop weld up a bar
which has at least five, preferably six, contact points. Also, have that
completed piece welded, not bolted, into the unibody. If you just want looks,
bend up a single loop behind the driver and chrome it!
