No such thing as a 'dumb question'.
For your particular situation, there are a number of shorty
filters available, however, you better change them often.
I recommend, instead, the right angle MotorSport filter
adapter. It is a fairly easy installation on the block
filter connection, and allows the use of a full size
MotorSport FL1A filter. This is, IMHO, a much better filter
than Fram (although the Fram equivalent fits too), and is
full size, full flow, and designed for your Ford engine.
Pictures are on Norm's site. Installation easy, but could
use a little corner filing on the motor mount bracket
corners, to give a little more clearance to the can. Easy
install/remove filter. Cost about $68.
