Larry,

Sounds about Wright to me {9->. A "ball joint" is a semi spherical device
that carries a tensile pulling load, and pushing load, on it, supporting a
passenger/operator load

A 'balloonist' is a passenger/operator load of a balloon, which is a
hemispherical device that carries a tensile pulling load, and in a hard
landing, a compressive load (till the ropes collapse).

Seems close enough for Government Work. Maybe your spell checker isn't so
dumb, after all.
