Maybe it is because of my age (43), or the fact that I lived OUT of
California for 25 or those years....BUT, I have never heard a PCV to mean
any thing other than "Positive Crankcase Ventilation" valve or "polyvinyl
chloride."

>From my recollection....and I don't delve too much into current automobile
pollution control technology.... On some vehicles there is a pollution
control valve that works in conjunction with a EGR valve and the smog pump.
That said, I will leave the balance of this discussion to those more
knowledgeable than myself.

Glad to be back in Sandyeggo after a four-day stint in Chi-cago!

Bob,

I am sure both are correct, depending upon whom you are talking to.
Functionally, you are correct.  From the state's viewpoint it is a piece
of pollution control equipment, and a valve, that must legally be on the
car and functioning.  So they think, by legislation, that it is one of
the Pollution Control Devices mandate.  In fact, the first one.
