As the owner of a '64 Tiger with a mildly pumped 289 and a ' 69
450hp 427 Vette I can try to address your question. Buy a Tiger, you can
always find a Vette. For the price of a ' 62 Fuelie you can own 2 Tigers and
set one up for auto-cross. You will find that the straight axle Corvettes (
55 - 62 ) have very little performance handling as the suspension is
basically 55 Chevy with very little ability to mod. I just had both cars at a
show last night and the Tiger which is a nice original unrestored daily
driver drew twice as many comments as my Vette which is a fresh frame-off
numbers matching restoration. For daily driving the Tiger not only handles
better but is consistently more comfortable and reliable. The Tiger requires
less work for miles driven then my Corvette. If you are serious about a
fuelie you are looking at even greater maint. as they are somewhat touchy and
there are fewer knowledgable techs around these days that know how to dial in
the Rochester Fuel Inj. units. If you live in a warm to hot climate they have
inclination for vapor lock.
