David,

Although Rick, at Sunbeam Specialties, is said to be telling people they don't
need the longer cable he carries for a 4 bbl. installation, I believe he is
mistaken.

The carb sits higher on the motor, and even the original cable end is too low, 
and
makes this cable (which is really a thin wire rod) make an extreme bend.  Even
then, very make-shift adjustments are needed at the pedal.  The result is 
usually
that the line is under foot tension at wide open throttle, and eventually 
breaks.

I found out when my pedal hit the floor and the car went to idle.

Had to jack up the idle speed and limp home at 10 mph.

Lesson learned.  Get the longer cable he carries.  Make a small bracket that 
goes
under the left rear carb nut, and twists to a vertical alignment, and straight
towards the fender.  Put a hole in one end to go under the carb nut, with good
lock washer to prevent rotation.  Put hole on the vertical surface that should 
be
directly in line with the throttle plate junction with the cable end.  This hole
should be just like the one on the manifold mounted original, which is no longer
required.

Attach the new cable (inner and outer comes as a unit) and adjust the 
accelerator
pedal clamp and stop, just like the Workshop Manual describes at length.  The 
end
result is that the foot-off pedal is no load on the throttle shaft, which should
be against the idle screw stop, and the pedal should be fully supported by the
adjustable inside pedal stop when floored, and your throttle plates should be 
wide
open.  No cable strain except the new return springs.  No more movement possible
to damage either the cable or the carb.
