Lo & behold, a 67 MK 2 posted for sale in area community paper, Reston, VA!
I went & inspected it. It's very rough cosmetically but seems "for real"
plus a lot of it is there to work with. It is driveable (just driven from
NY). For anyone interested, here are my observations:

SELLER:
*       Barry Askew, bus: 800 423-4173; h:703 860-1505; email: chc@vais.com.

* His story: car just given to him in lieu of money owed him. Asking
$12,000 o.b.o.(I think way too much for as seen condition, but what do I
know!)
BODY/ENGINE:
* Has both underhood plates: Rootes VIN 38 .. 0045 & JAL plate (seem
original- old looking/faded) .
* engine & most other key underhood pieces look very original, grungy
and undisturbed (oil filter assy & plumbing to oil cooler (cooler seen as
U-shaped with large fins); rt. valve cover has original Rootes decal, orig
intake manifold with "FOMOCO 289.. etc." aluminum ID tag, 2bbl carb &
heating plumbing; Rootes washerbottle/bracket intact; etc); one obvious
missing thing - air cleaner (running a sm aftermarket item).
* engine runs quiet & clean (no blue smoke/40-50 psi OIL PRESS.)
clutch & tranny seem OK. No obvious signs of boil-overs underhood.
* Seller just put car thru VA State Safety Insp: rejected for LF ball
joint and RF turn signal inop (not too bad! If done by the book, one front
and one rear wheel removed to inspect brakes, means also emergency brake,
wipers,all other lights & glass satisfactory to operate car)
* older, cheezy red repaint in poor condition; passes magnet test all
around lower body panels except small, lower rear panel area between trunk
opening and LR taillight, just above bumper sill.
* running four, aftermarket, spoked, painted alloy wheels (not
Panasports)
* nicked & dinged a lot, specially in front and on all bumpers but
'sits' nicely; does not appear to have suffered a major accident (door
hinges solid; both headlight trim rings fine; rear tail light lenses fine
shape). Key stuff missing: front grill and all fender opening trim.
*       INTERIOR/TRUNK - all correct 67 gages in place & working; original
shifter & small knob; window cranks work; all dash wood/upholstery/trim
panels in 'ugly' shape (all trim panels missing in trunk); tele steering
wheel works but black plastic housing broken/gone; there some pitting in
about all chrome pieces; likely some small items missing or broken (like
glove box light); has conv top (folded & not observed); glass ok for age,
appears to have original windshield (rubber gasket petrified!). WORST PROB:
floorpan - driver footwell has replacement metal sheet 'pop riveted' in;
didn't observe passenger side.
* Has a black hardtop with cloudy/scratched (original?) plastic side
windows,seemingly all hardware; headliner in 'ugly' shape. Like car, HT will
need total restoration.
