Tim,

You can test your gauge accuracy with your sweetie's cooking thermometer in the
water, and one eye on the gauge.  Make sure the thermostat is open over set 
point
and you see flow.  It will probably boil, if you let it get too hot, as the
pressure cap is off for the thermometer, so don't go that high.  If you reach
'close enough' you'll get your answer.

I do not know where your sender is located (block, radiator) or even if it is 
the
stock Lucas one that came with your original gage.  You also have a 10 volt
regulator on your gauge circuit, unless it's been removed.

If you do not have the correct sender, the correct voltage regulator, the 
correct
gage, all suited for each other, you will get the wrong temperature.

The Lucas sender is NOT the same as one that would come on the V-6.
