I have a similar carb with a similar tendency. My temporary fix is as follows:
Remove the carb from the intake manifold. This means removing the air
cleaner, throttle cable, fuel line, choke connections and any other
connections to the manifold. Remove the four base nuts which mount the carb
to the manifold. Remove carb and turn upside down. Tighten ALL the screws on
the underside of the carb. Some of these screws run through the carb and seem
to hold separate pieces of the carb body together. If they loosen, air leaks
develop resulting in your symptoms. Despite several tightenings, mine want to
re-loosen occasionally. Maybe it's time to get serious with threadlock?
I hope this helps your situation. I'd appreciate it if anyone else would pass
along suggestions for a permanent cure.
