Thanks for the info on Syd Silverman's "ex" Le Mans Coupe. In the dozen or
so years since Syd bought the car he has not lavished the attention on it
that he has on the other vintage racers in his stable. So, it isn't
surprising that he decided to sell it, and at a bargain price to boot.
Obviously this latest sale becomes a benchmark against which future offers
for sale will have to be measured. For example, Dick Barker's Coupe, which
was tested but didn't actually race at Le Mans, would presumably sell for
somewhat less. Part of the current interest in vintage Le Mans cars is the
planned upcoming vintage Le Mans race in which only cars that actually raced
there can participate. Presumably, Dick's #7 car would not be eligible,
although that is certainly a debatable point.
The person with "considerable knowledge" that precipitated the withdrawal of
the other Tiger from the auction was, of course, our own Norm Miller. I
understand he has had lengthy communications with all parties involved and,
as of yet, no resolution has been reached as to this particular Tiger's
authenticity. By the way, it was RM who quickly decided to remove this car
from the auction, not the owners. Some of you may recall a similar incident
a couple of years ago when another questionable Mk-II was auctioned by RM.
However, in that case, they were notified after the sale was complete, not
before the auction.

At the RM auction this weekend in Monterey one of the Le Mans Tigers,
#9, went for $148,500. Bidding seemed to be rather brisk for everything.
To put it in perspective a 65 Triumph Herald convertible went for over 15K.
The 410 Ferrari went for over 3.8M. The regular Tigers in the catalog
were not listed in the sale, at least one was withdrawn prior to sale after
a person with considerable knowledge questioned its authenticity.
