Folks,
Planned on opening up by 650 double pumper and
possibly putting in richer primary jets and checking for
crud and checking the power valve this weekend as part
of the high speed miss (70-72 mph) after dropping down from
around 90. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck
at all. All the Hot rod shops in the area are closed!
I forgot that the Spring Nationals at Gainsville is this
weekend. This has happened to me before, but my memory is
about an inch long now a days. Probably only be able to
check fuel flow, pressure and change a filter. Will also
check vacuum advance for excessive advance.
Was going to tear into my fuel cell to see if the
fuel pickup had become dislodged, but this week I ran on empty
for 3 days and had no problem with fuel pickup. Still had 3
gallons in the tank so the fuel was about an inch deep.
Therefore I assume the fuel pickup is still in the correct
position. Never noticed any missing this week. Of course I
was commuting in town and only got to 55-60 mph max.
Got to do something about the rear end as well.
dropped my drive shaft tonight, assuming I had a bad U joint
or damaged drive shaft yoke. Well, there is a few thousands
too much clearance on one of the holes for the U-joint
on the piece that bolts to the pinion front. The real problem
is the 20 degrees of backlash slop in the rear end. It clunks
real bad even turning it by hand. I wonder if I should have
checked to see if there was any oil in the rear end in the last
350,000 or so miles? They do not make them like they used to.
I attempted to remove a hub several years ago. I dread the thought
of it now. Probably will attempt to fabricate a hub puller.
Going to be a busy weekend.
Also have to crawl into the attic to run cables for a
LAN and set up a new PC and load a bunch of SW.
Oh, and I have to weld up a broken basketball goal
for a friend when I have nothing else to do.
Should have gone to Gainsville for the Drags.

in my spare
