Here is an interesting story about fuel pumps. I purchased my Tiger in
Dec. of 1965. In 1969 I was driving to the races at Sebring Florida,
from from Indiana. In Atlanta after dark the fuel pump had to be tapped
regularly in order to keep it working. (typical Lucas pump). South of
Atlanta I finally had to stop at an out of the way filling station. I
explained my problem and a nice southern shade tree mechanic said that
he could fix that. Not having a new pump available he took the bendix
pump off an old school bus. None of the threads matched so he cut off a
couple of short sections of his filling station's driveway bell ringing
hose (you older members will know what I am talking about). Since the
threads didn't match, he used those to connect the fuel lines to the
bendix pump. Everything worked fine. Now 35 years later it is still
working fine. Sure wouldn't win any points in a concourse, but then I
would never enter one. Real nice southern gentleman, didn't charge me
hardly anything.
