Sounds like something has moved, either the distributor or the timing chain.
I would go back to determining if in fact the distributor is still pointing
at number 1 cylinder.
Take out the number one plug and get someone to wind the motor over while
you stick your finger in the open hole. (No jokes) as the piston comes to
TDC on compression there will be a huge rush of air out the hole that your
finger will be trying to stop. Have the person winding with the key, crank
in about quarter rotation pulses using the key when you start to hear the
rush of air past your finger stop and check the location of the timing marks
and manually rotate the engine to the TDC mark on the balancer and line it
up with the timing indicator on the timing cover. Now check and be sure the
rotor is pointing exactly at the number one cylinder. If it is in line then
we need more data. If not in line rotate the distributor to line up with the
rotor and try to fire it again.
