Tim, that obviously was the case. Thanks.  I already got the new studs
in place and everything looks OK now.  This roller rocker thing is new
to me since I have not built a SBF motor for almost 20 years and at that
time the roller stuff was pretty leading edge for a young punk street
guy like me.  

Several other folks pointed out the need for a longer stud too. I
actually came to this conclusion on my own after I sent the original
EMAIL and had a chance to calm down a bit.  One thing that threw me was
that if you look at comp cams web page they do not have a longer stud
for the 3/8" application and I figured there must be a problem since
they made the rockers why would their studs not work.  Later I looked at
ARP and found that they did have a 1.9" stud for 3/8".  In the end I
felt uncomfortable with that so I switched to 7/16" studs and rockers,
the length and material selection is much better for the 7/16" size, at
least from ARP.  I now have 2" studs and I get ~.5" of grip in the lock.
