Subject: SB 708 RESPOND!!!

I want to encourage every California car collector out there to respond to
this latest threat (SB 708)
http://www.sen.ca.gov/~newsen/senators/senators.htp. I challenge you all to
post your letter to your Senator. Not doing so would assume you haven't.
Sorry
to sound so intimidating and load up the list, but we are all in this
together. Let's make our efforts known and encourage others.

IF WE JUST IDLY SIT BY, THEN WE MAY ONLY BE ABLE TO SIT IDLY BY (IN OUR
DRIVEWAYS)!

Dear Mr. McClintock,

I most urgently ask your NO vote on SB 708. This Bill would repeal the
1973
and older status of "no smog" for collector cars. Collector cars are well
mantained vehicles that owners strive to keep in top running (and therefore
low emission) condition. New smog laws would force these cars to met smog
standards that they could not pass when new! Collector cars are driven very
few miles each year. Thus, the amount of smog they create is minimal.
In my own case I have spent the past three years working to restore a 1965
Sunbeam Tiger. When this project is finally finished I wouldn't be able to
drive my years of love and labor if Mr. Flores has his way. Years ago homes
now declared "historic" were torn down as "urban blight." All this was done
in
the name of progress and moving forward. Now history lies buried in
landfills
and we have housing projects for a legacy of those decisions. If you vote to
support SB708 you would be following in those same misguided footsteps
others
have made. Mr. McClintock, please support those of us who have labored for
years in preserving automotive history and encourage your colleagues to do
likewise. VOTE NO on SB 208.

Sincerely, your constituent,

Tom Witt
