Now that your carpet is dry, time to think about where the
moisture came from.  An old windshield to body gasket can
do it.  If you have a MKIA or MK II, the usual suspect is the
floor vents.  Look for a missing or blocked drain tube.  The
rubber duck bill can be cracked.  The drain hole at the bottom
of the vent is only so big.  A downpour can exceed its ability
to drain.  Another source is the gasket sealing the vent door.
These are lots of fun to replace.  Ask anyone who has done
it.  I believe SS is selling new drain door gaskets.  

If all else fails, consider moving from 'humidity city' to a drier
climate.
