Alright, I got a big problem and would like some time saving advice if
possible. Recently I went to the tire shop and finally got some tires
for my Tiger. When they went out to start it, they claimed it would not
start, so I went out and it appears that they had twisted the key around
at least 180 degrees ( meaning the ignition switch spun around in the
dash). I put the key in, and it started ok. I drove it up to the lift,
and got my tires. I got back in, went home ( less than a mile) and
washed the car. When I got back in to pull it into the garage, it was
dead. My volt gauge showed 12 volts, then when I turned the key to on,
the fuel pump would not come on and the volt gauge read at 9volts, which
is the bottom of the meter.

I wiggled the key, and the pump came on, and the volts returned. I
tried to start it, and nothing, and the pump shut off, and no amount of
wiggling brought it or the volts back. I figured they hosed up the tired
old switch, and just pushed the car into the garage. I went out and got
a new switch, hooked it up the same way, and NOTHING changed. I was
totally disappointed. So then I look under the dash, thinking all of the
twisting they did crossed some wires, but nope, nothing looks crossed.

To make a really long story a bit shorter, I looked and looked and
found nothing. When I used my voltmeter, I found that the entire system
was short about 3/4 of a volt with the entire ignition switch
disconnected! I traced it to one of the two brown wires on the solenoid,
which is also wired to the ignition switch, but should not be pulling
volts, since the wire is dangling from the dash. I tried to link it to a
fuse, but all I found was that the voltage draw was at the two common
power circuits (I have a datsun fuse block). I checked under the dash,
and nothing except the ammeter has any voltage right now, with JUST the
wire I traced hooked up to the battery.

That is about as far as I can go with this. I cannot think of
anything else that would cause this to happen. I am just stumped. Any
suggestions would be wonderful, and I need to resolve this in a hurry
since I am moving in just a few weeks. Thanks for any help!!

Scott
