I heard of a process called extrude Honing that permits the enlarging of
ports by passing large quantities of sand under pressure through the port.
The characteristic of this process is that it finds a 'natural' maximum flow
configuration as it is forced through as a slurry and acts like erosion
opening up the ports to increase flow. This has been a successful way for
late model performance increases in the long runner aluminum manifolds..
