Valve Cover Data Sticker

Any ideas on how to successfully remove the metal data plate on the valve cover
for reinstallation on new covers?  I'm thinking dental wire or guitar string 
stretched
between vicegrips like a draw knife with a little xylene or acetone to help with
the glue.  The obvious problem with this idea is creating wrinkles in the foil 
due
to the thickness of the wire.
