At least one advantage that the Pertronix II module has over either the
original Pertronix or the Allison unit is that the Pertronix II will not
leave the coil energized (pulling current) if you have the ignition on but
the engine is not running. Doing that to the original Pertronix or the
Allison unit can damage the amplifier or the coil.

Also, (it's all coming back now...) the Allison's heat sink is hot (both in
temperature and voltage). If you should happen to install it so that the
heatsink touches a grounded metal part on the car (for example: if the
hood/bonnet can rattle on it when it's closed) then the engine will cut out
intermittently.

Having said that, I never had a problem with the Allison module while I had
it in my race car, so far as I can remember, other than mounting it in a bad
place at one point ;) .
