Do it right - then you won't have to worry.

The issue is the voltage drop that will occur over the 75 ft line that you 
will have to run.  To keep the voltage drop to a minimum, you should use 
wire of a certain diameter.  A little research will tell you what gauge to 
use.  So, whether you use an "extension cord" or run wire in a conduit, it 
should be of the specified diameter.  Otherwise, you may have 220 volts at 
the outlet, but something significantly less when you get to the 
compressor, which will make it rather unhappy.
