Steve, and Tigers,

I., too, lost a headlight lidded Mk I frame.  It came off at speed on 
the freeway.  I was trying to pull over to reclaim it, when my dear one 
restrained me.  Yes, I wasn't thinking.

I did replace both of them with the Mk IA style with the fixing screw 
lids.  The Mk I "snap-ons" were not secure (proven) and I have never had 
any issue with them.

Suggest you replace the factory rejected design (and it cost them more) 
with the later ones.
