In the very early 70's, my '67 MK1A was traveling at high speed on the 405
on the valley side of Mulholland Drive when my headlight rim decided to
separate itself from the body at about 100 MPH...I looked in the rear view
mirror just in time to see the headlight rim land in the slow lane in front
of an 18 wheeler- which promptly ran it over several times. This headlight
rim had a clip-type of fit to the body. The headlight rim I replaced it
with (as well as the other side) turned into a screw-in affair after that
incident. I believe many of the original headlight rims had the clip-type
fit, but were probably reinforced with other methods!

And use the rubber seals available from Curt or Rick. Not the flat piece of
rubber from VB.
