Hey, Joel:

=20

Andy Walker here in Edmond, OK. Having just been through most of this =
stuff, I thought I=E2=80=99d chime in and help you out as so many of the =
good folks on this list did for me. I can only tell you what I did in =
some of these cases, but I=E2=80=99m sure one of these days I=E2=80=99ll =
have someone really critique my car to see just how close I came to =
getting it right.

=20

Hood latch: CAD plated, not body color (both the latch on the car and =
the striker on the hood). The CAD plating I had done on my latch pieces =
was a bit dull and I ended up taking some 0000 steel wool to them and =
gave them a nice semi-sheen. From what I=E2=80=99ve seen on other cars, =
they look pretty well right.

=20

Hood release: It=E2=80=99s my understanding that most of the Mk1As had =
the pull cable and not the pull rod of the earlier Tigers. However, =
this was one of the few places where I consciously deviated from stock; =
I used the release rod from an earlier Tiger. I=E2=80=99d heard too =
many horror stories of cables breaking and just didn=E2=80=99t think it =
was worth the risk. Others may feel differently, but I chose what I =
would consider to be the safer route. Since I didn=E2=80=99t use the =
cable, I cannot comment on the proper way that it would connect to the =
latch mechanism.

=20

Grille center badge bracket: I didn=E2=80=99t mess with mine during my =
build, but I know it is not supposed to be body color. They should be =
black, but I=E2=80=99m guessing more of a satin finish rather than =
gloss; I=E2=80=99m sure someone will correct me if I=E2=80=99m wrong. =
IIRC, there should be a nut welded onto the bottom of the sheetmetal =
that forms the lower grille opening that the bottom foot of the bracket =
bolts to. =20

=20

Trunk or engine area lighting: I don=E2=80=99t believe that any Tigers =
had factory-installed =E2=80=9Ccourtesy lights=E2=80=9D in either the =
trunk or the under-hood areas. Having said that, I seem to remember =
seeing a wiring schematic showing an under-hood light, but I=E2=80=99ll =
bet my eye teeth that it was probably an option that could have been =
purchased from a dealer. =20

=20

Blower motor and switch: IIRC, the Mk1As had the two-speed blower motor =
(my car, #1600, has the two-speed motor). The switch is located in the =
far left hole on the dash and should have the =E2=80=9CBlower=E2=80=9D =
surround ring pinched under the switch mounting ring and the dash. I =
don=E2=80=99t know anything about an auxiliary lamp for the blower unit.

=20

Defroster vent hoses: I had to go to Rick at Sunbeam Specialties on =
this one on my car. Sure enough, he said that the hoses are held in =
place with black tape and were that way from the factory. A friend of =
mine had some of what he called =E2=80=9Cblack friction tape=E2=80=9D =
that had a little texture to it and we used that. I=E2=80=99m neither =
recommending that nor trying to scare you off of it; I=E2=80=99d just =
prefer to wait and see how long it holds on my car before I recommend it =
to anyone.

=20

Slide temp and defroster controls: IIRC, they attach to the =
heater/defroster control bezel studs that stick through the dash. The =
just nut down on the back of the dash. Let me know if you need more =
detail and I=E2=80=99ll look at what the parts book says as far as what =
type of washer was used. =20

=20

Dash mounting screws: These have a black =E2=80=9Ccarbonized=E2=80=9D =
finish to them; they look very similar to the way a gun would look after =
being re-blued. =20

=20

Dash holes on either side of steering column: These are where the =
semi-circular filler plate mounts that takes up the space between the =
steering column and the lower dash roll. The plate has one stud on each =
side that goes through those holes with nuts and washers on the =
backside.

=20

Lower valance capture nuts: If I understand you correctly, those are =
for the English-style number plate mounting bracket. =20

=20

Two holes in the passenger side lower front fender: If these are behind =
the front wheel and are low on the fender, then they are undoubtedly the =
mounting holes for the Chrysler Pentastar medallion that came on the =
later cars. =20

=20

I hope I have helped you out somewhat. If I=E2=80=99m wrong about any =
of this stuff, I=E2=80=99m sure that others more knowledgeable than I =
will chime in and set the record straight.

=20

Best of luck, Joel,

Andy

Subject: [Tigers] 1966 MK 1A Tiger questions

=20

Hello all,

=20

Questions abound while trying to put the 1966 MK 1A 2193 Tiger back =
together.

=20

1. Hood latch is it body color or other
2. Hood release, is it cable or rod and if rod, how to attach to release =
=E2=80=93 special clevis pin.
3. Grill center badge bracket =E2=80=93 what does bottom of bracket bolt =
to
4. Brill center badge bracket =E2=80=93 body color or gloss black
5. Trunk or engine area =E2=80=93 are there any lights or is only light =
inside the glove box
6. Blower switch location in dash. #1 aux lamp if fitted =E2=80=93 far =
left hole in dash.
7. Blower motor =E2=80=93 single or 2 speed
8. Defroster vent hoses fit =E2=80=98inside=E2=80=99 of metal vents =
=E2=80=93 how held in place =E2=80=93 clamps or tape and if tape =
diameter and color.
9. Slide temp control and floor defroster settings =E2=80=93 how are =
they held in place
10. Wood dash tapered heads to hold dash in place =E2=80=93 Phillips =
tapered head, 1-1/2 or 1-1/4 inch long =E2=80=93 are these stainless =
steel. SS sells the far right one but not sure of the others.
11. Wood dash =E2=80=93 steering column area =E2=80=93 1 hole on either =
side of column opening =E2=80=93 what are they for.
12. Lower valance =E2=80=93 2 captive nuts on either side of center =
opening =E2=80=93 what are they for.
13. Passenger lower front fender, there are 2 holes in body =E2=80=93 1 =
small then a larger one just beneath =E2=80=93 what goes here.

=20

When it takes a number of years to reconstruct, memory fades and with =
multiple folks not taking picture and notes while I had to work =
=E2=80=93 my fault, so thanks in advance.
