Although this info is not about a Tiger's spare tire and rim, it might add =
a bit to the discussion. =C2=A0Especially in relation to the tire types and=
rim color. =C2=A0I am a long time owner of two Tigers (Mark II purchased i=
n 1978 and Mark I in 1979). However, in November of 2011 I purchased a '66 =
Series V Alpine (B395008497 OD LRX) from the original owner. The car has on=
ly 66,435 miles on it... original paint, engine, interior, etc. It is a rea=
l survivor that has been well cared for over the years.=C2=A0
This posting is regarding that car's spare tire. The original owner said he=
had never used it... and that it was the original. I have posted photos, b=
elow. =C2=A0I believe the tire is actually the original one... and it sure =
looks unused based on the "nibs" (not sure what to call them) that are stil=
l intact on the tire, etc.=C2=A0

One thing I noticed: as mentioned by others, it appears that the wheels wer=
e first painted black... then the front side was painted the "Off White/ ve=
ry light Grey" color... as the "over-spray" is clearly visible on the backs=
ide of this spare. Also: this tire has a wheel weight stamped with the Dunl=
op logo. This may support the idea that it is original?
Please see photos at this link (hope this works):
http://s1299.photobucket.com/user/fordlandia/library/1966%20SERIES%20V%20AL=
PINE%20ORIGINAL%20SPARE

It may not be correct to assume that the same approach was used on the MKIA=
Tigers. =C2=A0But, seems likely (although the wheel might be a bit differe=
nt?).

I'm at work right now and do not have access to my copy of TBON, but I seem=
to recall that the MkIIs had stock steel wheels that were painted a silver=
color on both sides, while the Mk1 and Mk1A wheels were painted black on t=
he inside of the wheel and white on the outside.=C2=A0 If I'm not mistaken,=
I believe the correct color ID for the outside wheel color was "Seafoam Gr=
ay," or something like that.=C2=A0 I contacted Tower Paint in Appleton, WI,=
years ago and gave them the afore-mentioned name of the correct Rootes col=
or and they were able to mix me several cans of it to spray my wheels with.=
=C2=A0=20

Jay was correct in his description of the spray method.=C2=A0 The wheels we=
re evidently painted black and then the "Seafoam Gray" was applied to the o=
utside surface of the wheel with no effort by the factory to mask off the i=
nside surface.=C2=A0 It is proper to have a little overspray come through a=
nd land on the black surface of the inside of the wheel, so don't worry abo=
ut that.=C2=A0=20

Hope this helps,

Joel,
Here (hopefully you can see them) are pictures of my original spare
from my MKI B9470622..=C2=A0 (black, grey-white front, Dunlop RS5).
Note the /64 datecode.=C2=A0 Your picture looks like /63 datecode, not
sure if that could have been left over long enough for your MKIa but
maybe...
You also have the early MKI "crosshatch" trim ring, pretty sure you
should have the later style.
HTH,
Gary

pare tire (Gary Winblad)
Joel:

I'm at work right now and do not h=
ave access to my copy of TBON, but I seem to recall that the MkIIs had stoc=
k steel wheels that were painted a silver color on both sides, while the Mk=
1 and Mk1A wheels were painted black on the inside of the wheel and white o=
n the outside. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the correct color ID fo=
r the outside wheel color was "Seafoam Gray," or something like that. =
I contacted Tower Paint in Appleton, WI, years ago and gave them the afore=
-mentioned name of the correct Rootes color and they were able to mix me se=
veral cans of it to spray my wheels with.

Jay was correct in =
his description of the spray method. The wheels were evidently painte=
d black and then the "Seafoam Gray" was applied to the outside surface of t=
he wheel with no effort by the factory to mask off the inside surface.&nbsp=
; It is proper to have a little overspray come through and land on the blac=
k surface of the inside of the wheel, so don't worry about that.
=
