It sounds like you are doing it right.
I would pull it out and try again though.
I say that because of the last one I put in.
It was brand new from Vic British OEM XXX.
It seemed to go in fine, trim and all.
But, the first cold night in my not so cold
California, one of the laminations in the lower
corner cracked.  I can only think that I left it
a little too stressed on one side.
