There is few members in my Brit.Car Club (Le Rendez-vous des Anglaises)
that have installed 2,8L Ford Ranger with 5 speeds trans. in TR's or MG's.
I think that a GM 2,9L is suitable. You must have in mind that the car,
with this kind of modifications, could be a great roadster to drive but it
is not orginal anymore.
