For all you kind folks who responded to my queries regarding HS2 & HS4 float
levels and bowls, I think I've found the cure.

I got my hands on an AUC 1310 (I'm still looking for a AUD to compare) bowl
to replace the stock AUD 2140 on my HS2s. The offset on the 1310 bowl puts it
about 1/4" higher than the 2140. I actually had to shim the needle seat down
to keep the rear bowl from flooding, but it did the trick.

Both levels are now very close. My idle has smoothed out a bit and there's a
little improvement at higher rpms - mine wasn't running all that ragged to
begin with. Our member with the really problematic HS4s called to let me know
his conversion has put him back on the road with a proper running Spitfire
1500. So, obviously, performance with the SU conversion will vary from car to
car.

This modification is not for everyone. But, if your fuel levels are way
different between the front and back carbs, you may get a performance
improvement by changing out the rear bowl.

Thanks again for your responses,
Charlie B.
