Someone asked about how to prevent the rust between the fenders/rockers
caused by the vent drain. I've seen two solutions. If you're going to
rebuild because of rust, paint and undercoat the area. The factory never
painted this void. As a result the mud and water thrown up by the front
wheels plugged up the drain holes and the trapped water slowly rusted the
whole area out. The other solution is to drill out into the back of the
wheel well,and extend the drain hoses found between the fenders. These are
kept open at all times, except when driving. Then small corks are inserted
to prevent any dirt/mud entry. In this case it also helps to close the
bottom drain holes with undercoating material. This to again, prevent the
mud thrown up by front wheels from entering. Fred
