Follow up: Spitfire coil

I tried Jeremy's suggestion and extended a jumper cable from + pole on the
coil to the block - CRACK, spark, engine died, spark. So that works.

Is there anything that I can do to see if there is a problem with the wiring
from the negative pole of the coil?
