Dennis,
Personally, I would give my business to the local independent muffler
shop. They all seem to be much more willing to work with the customer as far
as installation and such. They will, no doubt, be considerably less expensive
than Midas, and since you are not installing their parts, Midas will not give
you any sort of guarantee anyway. The Monza system on my 72 Spit hangs low,
but is not low enough to be damaged. It uses the original hanger clamp system
at the bell housing bolt and the diff mounting bracket, but from there back it
is a custom fit. We welded on two brackets to the pipes just before they hit
the mufflers. These are fitted with the heavy duty, drilled rubber strapping
material they use to make hangers. Then two threaded studs were welded to the
frame cross member and these rubber straps are fastened to the studs. To
change u-joints et al., I just unbolt the various clamps, straps and the stock
manifold coupling and the whole system comes out in one piece!
Moral of the story, Support your Independent Service Providers, they are a
dying breed!

Dear fellow Spit owners:
I recently replace the stock exhaust (shot!) with a Monza system in my 79
Spit. I had to have Midas fabricate a 26 inch piece of pipe to connect the
new header with the resonantor. The system hangs below the frame and is at
risk for being torn off on a speed bump.
Any advice on how to rectify this without paying Midas to redo the system?
