My recommendation is that you leave well enough alone.  The only way I
would see my way clear to fit an overdrive to a non-overdrive car is to buy
an entirely new OD gearbox, J-type.  I don't recall if all later TR6s had
OD as standard, but I don't think so.  It is very easy to fit the OD
switch, by the way... nothing to that.  An OD gearbox (the gearbox portion)
has an entirely different mainshaft, though, so adding an OD to a NON-OD
'box would be next to impossible, or at least it would not be very cost
effective.  Hope this helps.  Also, if you had the J-type OD on your car,
you would have 6 forward speeds, not just 5!  The OD operates on 3rd and
4th gears.  The earlier A-type operates on 2nd, 3rd and 4th... 7 forward
gears!!
