I'm not familiar with camshaft needle bearings. But whatever you do, you 
definitely would have to do something about the oil supply to the 
camshaft if using needle bearings.

The camshaft bearings are supplied directly from the main oil gallery. If
these supply lines are left as they are, you would loose all oil pressure
through the needle bearings - not a good idea!
