I will not have time to individually respond to the messages I received
concerning my post yesterday about a) fuel pump rebuild kit problems and
b) dissatisfaction with TRF. So here is a group reply, hopefully all
those who mailed me will read this...

I have successfully resolved my probelms on both counts. First of all,
the diaphragm which was manufactured incorrectly has been made this way
for 12 years according to Dave at TRF. There is no ther diaphragm that
they can get. If you have a rebuilt kit from AC then you may be in luck
and have the "correct" diaphragm. I refitted the "upside-down" diaphragm
yesterday and I had no noise like I did the first time I fit it. TRF
knows this is a problem in manufacturing but it seems to not affect the
pump's performance. Another point about the rebuild kits: the non-AC one
I got does _not_ have the oil seals or retainer which are pictured in
the TRF catalog. These parts are not available anymore apparently. Dave
Terrick mentioned he recieved a AC kit from Moss. Perhaps Moss has a
source on AC rebuild kits. _If_ AC-made rebuild kits exist, why TRF
cannot get these parts I do not know. In any event, my fuel pump works
fine for the time being.

As for the dissatisfaction with TRF, I humbly admit I may have jumped
the gun. Several listers have convinced me that TRF are genuinely in the
game cause they like cars not just to make money. My perception was
tainted by a) the fact that they are very often out of stock on items I
need and b) I spoke once with a very uniformed customer service rep
from there. The parts supply problem is still an issue. However, having
spoken to Dave at their customer service line yesterday, I can now say
that if you get the right person on the phone they can be very helpful.
So I got unlucky the one time and thus formed an opinion which has stuck
with me until now.

Hopefully that clears it up as far as the pump kit and TRF...

Cheers!
