TR6 clutch master cylinders can be a real pain! Once, I bought a brand
new one, installed it, and less than 6 month later (15,000 city miles),
it started leaking. (Yes, I was using Castrol LMA). The cause of the
leak was wear in top of the aluminum bore of the cylinder caused by the
steel piston (Since they are warrantied for a year, Atlantic Auto Parts
gave me a new one). The clutch pedal travels in an arc, and puts an
upward pressure on the piston, thus wearing the top of the bore. Being
the junk yard dog I am, and at the time having a really cool British
friendly junkyard, I checked out lots of clutch master cylinders, and
they all wore like that.

I installed the new clutch master cylinder, rebuilt the slave cylinder,
and used GE synthetic brake fluid (This was in 1985 or 1986). Since
then, I wrecked that lovely orange car, bought a 74 and transfered the
clutch hydraulics to it, and have driven it over 100,000 miles with no
hydraulic problems (but one broken clutch fork retaining pin which will
never happen again cause I fixed it good).
