Hi listers,

wow, what a list. I think I'll save that thread on tales of misery and
woe. One of these days it will be my turn. Hanging from the
roof....ripping car parts off... fires.... gees I feel like a rank
amateur. Here's the best I can do...

Just bought the TR6 in '89. Blew the motor up that same day. What to do,
I panic in horror, the realize I have a complete motor in the garage. Had
that even before I had the car.

A grizzled old English mechanic friend tells me "don't worry, chief, we'll
have you goin shortly... what year is the car". I reply a '74, he gets
the gaskets and we do a quick rings and bearings rebuild on the parts car
motor. Only it's a 71 with the flat head gasket. neither of us twigs to
this and, after running for about 3 minutes there is coolant everywhere and
in the oil. We botyh presume, as there was a rubber frost plug in the
block, that it had been frozen once and ruined it. Next motor rebuilt (a
long story involving parts from 3 model years) before we realize the error
of the head gasket being incorrect and being the only problem. Dooooooooh.
