I dunno.  I went to catholic school, and there were quite a
few young ladies in the sister schools who held the same
belief.  They were "saving themselves" and avoiding the sin of
fornication, but still having fun.  It seemed incongruous to
me at the time too, but since I was at times the benificiary
of their largesse I didn't raise the thorny theological
questions.
